Editorial Methodology

This page explains exactly how we decide what to cover and how we arrive at a verdict. We’re publishing this so you don’t have to take our word for it — you can see the process itself.

The Two Types of Reviews on This Site

Every review is labeled clearly at the top as one of the following:

Hands-On Tested We personally purchased or received (with disclosure) the product, used it for a stated period of time under normal, real-world conditions, and are reporting our own direct experience. We note how long we tested for and under what conditions.

Research-Based We have not personally tested this specific product. Instead, the review is built from: manufacturer specifications and claims, ingredient or component analysis, and cross-checked feedback from verifiable sources (retailer reviews, independent test data where available). We do not write these as if we personally used the product.

How We Choose What to Cover

We focus on four categories: Health & Fitness, Home & Garden, Self-Help, and Green Products. Within these, we prioritize products and resources we personally own, use, or have directly worked through — so our “Hands-On Tested” label means exactly what it says. If we haven’t personally used or gone through something but there’s enough credible information to form a fair, well-researched opinion, we’ll cover it as “Research-Based” instead — clearly labeled either way.

For Health & Fitness content specifically: we are not medical professionals. Any health-related claims we discuss are sourced from published research, manufacturer data, or credible third-party information, and are never presented as medical advice. See our About page for the honest limits of our team’s background.

For Self-Help content specifically: reviews of books, courses, or programs reflect our own experience going through the material and our honest opinion of its usefulness — not a guarantee of results, since outcomes from self-help resources vary significantly from person to person.

Our Testing Criteria (for Hands-On Tested reviews)

  • Real-world use — how it performs in everyday conditions in an actual home or routine, not a lab or showroom
  • Value for price — is it worth what it costs relative to alternatives we’ve also used or researched
  • Quality and durability — build quality for physical products, or ingredient/formulation transparency for health-related products
  • Ease of use — setup, learning curve, and day-to-day friction (or lack of it); for self-help resources, how clear and actionable the material actually is
  • Would we buy it again / recommend it to a specific person — the practical bottom line, since different products and resources suit different needs, budgets, and goals

Our Research Criteria (for Research-Based reviews)

  • Cross-checking manufacturer claims against independent sources where they exist
  • Flagging any claims we can’t verify, rather than repeating them as fact
  • Being explicit that this is not personal-use testimony

How We Handle Updates

Products change, get discontinued, or get reformulated. We revisit reviews periodically and update them when we learn something has changed. If a review has been substantially updated, we note the date of the most recent revision at the top.

What We Won’t Do

  • We won’t claim personal testing we didn’t do.
  • We won’t publish a review we were paid to make positive — see our Affiliate Disclosure.
  • We won’t attach credentials to our team that aren’t real — see our About page for who we actually are.
